While enroute from New Haven, Connecticut, USA for Mizushima, Japan with a cargo of scrap metal her hull cracked in a position 31.46N/156.28E, east of Japan on 7 January 1980. 4 days later she succumbed to flooding and subsequently sank with the loss of 29 crew members.
