(World Ship Society) Marine News report - Developed a severe list on 30 August 2001 as a result of flooding in her no. 2 hold when in a position 31.33S x 10.07E some 500 miles west of Cape Town, South Africa. She was later reported to be drifting in a position 31.34S x 09.11E with the list increasing. The bulk carrier MINERAL YORK took 25 crew members off safely but 3 were lost when their lift raft drifted into the propeller. Subsequently taken in tow by the tug SUHAILI for Cape Town (presumably the tow encountered difficulties while underway) She was eventually scuttled on 17 September in a position 25.12.37S x 09.23.89E. She was on a passage from Durban, South Africa for Santos, Brazil in ballast. |
