Description
On October 6, 1980 the Lac des Iles grounded just below Grassy Island, Detroit River; caused by a faulty steering mechanism. She freed herself a few hours later and completed the season. An inspection at the end of the season, at the Port Weller Dry Dock, revealed damages too extensive to justify repairs.

The wheelhouse, engine, stack and cabins were stripped, and the hull was converted for grain storage use in Toronto in the spring of 1981.
