On December 2nd, 1962, the American cargo ship ALASKA CEDAR, built in 1944, on voyage from Columbia River to Los Angeles with a cargo of lumber, was lost after running aground with disabled engines in stormy weather at the North Jetty, Coos Bay. The crew of 24 were rescued.
