Built for the Presque Isle Transportation Company (Cleveland, Ohio) and entered service on September 25, 1905; sailing from Ecorse, Michigan to Marquette, Michigan.
Grounded on September 30, 2905, on her maiden revenue voyage, at Buffalo, New York. 200 tons of iron ore were removed to re-float the vessel. Then, in November, 1905 she broker her shaft, 35 miles from Duluth, Minnesota, on the first voyage to the head of the lakes. She was towed to Superior, Wisconsin for repairs.
The Presque Isle fleet was transferred to Cleveland-Cliffs Steamship Company in 1951. The ship was then sold to Browning Lines Inc. (Detroit, Michigan) in 1959 and renamed John C. Hay.
Sold for scrap to Marine Salvage Ltd. (Port Colborne, Ontario) in 1961 and then resold to Italian shipbreakers. |
