Description
The Dutch tanker Alessandro DP collided with the Karam I at 17:350h on November 29th, 2010 at 42.34N/28.03E. The Karam I was sailing from Varna, Bulgaria to Karabiga, Turkey, loaded with scrap. The Karam I sank immediately. Five of the ten crew on-board were lost. The Alessandro DP suffered only minor damage. The investigation by the Bulgarian Ministry of Transportation found fault with both crews. The crew of the Alessandro DP failed to give way. The crew of the Karam I failed to react in time; when the ship, that should has given an advantage, has not started the needed actions. Criminal charges were filed against the captain of the Karam I and the chief officer of the Alessandro DP, by the Bulgarian authorities.
