My parents (Don & Lovern) were chief & second cook in 1960/61/62 - They took me to meet Mr Reoch and he allowed them to bring me on board for a month during the summer of 62 ... quite an experience for an 8 year old boy ... the galley was equipped with a coal stove and i remember the hatch covers were nothing but planks of wood with a tarpoline covering them ... i gave everyone a heart attack when i climbed up on those hatch covers - Ray(Red) Bryant was the chief mate, then captain - and eventually married my mother a few years after my father died in 1975
