On August 4th 1985 while en route from Japanese ports to ports on the Great Lakes including Cleveland and Chicago with 17,000 tons of steel products she was seriously damaged in collision with the container ship 'Ming Universe' in the North Pacific between Hawaii and the West coast of the U.S. Her port side was badly holed and her engine-room flooded. Her crew was taken on board by the 'Ming Universe', following which she was towed into Long Beach on August 22, 1985. Upon inspection she was found to be beyond repair and as such was declared a constructive total loss. She was subsequently retired and sold for scrapping. |
